How to take care of your children this winter

UK is ready to welcome snowy cold winter happily and we are all ready to be wrapped up inside the  blankets and stay cozy.Children love to enjoy the winter, to play in the snow and give a try to make snowman. They are also very eager to welcome Christmas lightings and New year celebrations around the city.In such a  situation of joy and bliss, the children must be in a good mindset and health to enjoy it.In the present world of chaotic situation ,the children must be given special attention and care by us parents. The parents can follow some simple day to day care and steps to protect  children from the contagious diseases.

1).Use layers of clothing:

On entering winter,we are unwrapping all the winter clothing that are used often .Layer by layer all the winter clothes and dresses comes out as winter progresses.Preparing the children’s winter clothes is very essential.Keeping kids more protective and warm can make their winter more enjoyable than ever.

If your child is going outside for school or going to play in the backyard to enjoy the snow, don’t forget to dress up your kids in layers.Dress up with layer of clothings with a thermals inside and above cover the child with an insulated/Waterproof Jackets. This keeps the child warm inside and prevent the water from getting in and making the child wet. Also cover your children with socks, gloves, caps and scarves to cover the neck as well.

2).Keep Hydrated:

We are always aware of drinking too much of fluids and water in summer. But we forget to follow the same during winter. Not only the heat in summer brings dehydration to our body but also the winter season. The winter also makes the air much drier and leads to dehydration in our body which in turn leads to constipation problems.

Children going to school and spending their remaining time at home mostly forget to drink water by themselves. They don’t know the importance of keeping their body hydrated. So we should remain children of drinking water regularly while going to school and also on getting back home we should provide them with water at frequent intervals.

3).Keep the skin moisturized:

As the humidity of air is low both indoor and outdoor during the winter, there is a high chance of the skin getting dry.The dry skin in children can create disturbance to them by itching, rashes and burning sensation.

It is therefore very essential to keep the child’s skin moisturized everyday. Before getting out of the home in dry weather or even while staying inside the home, don’t  forget to moisturize your child’s skin so often. You can moisturize the child’s skin with a good moisturizer available in the market of your choice.

4). cover feet with slippers inside home:

Dressing in layers  can be protective while going outside whereas the habit of wearing slippers and covering the feet inside home can prevent the child  from getting cold.If a child walks in the floor without wearing a slipper inside house, there is a high chance that the feet gets colder and increases the risk of getting a flu or cold. Therefore you  must provide the children with a pair of slippers for their use at house .

5).Give Purified/ boiled and cooled water:

During winter there are high chances for the  bacteria and virus to develop a room for itself. Many micro organisms are found in water and it is killed by bringing the water to a boil.Drinking the water directly from tap can cause many new diseases among children as they are more prone to viruses.

So we should purify the water before giving it to children by boiling and cooling it.We can use a kettle to boil the water and cool it.Otherwise we can also use a water purifier to purify the bacterias and chemicals present in tap water.

6)Keep Rooms ventilated:

Winter always insist us to stay warm and cozy throughout the days by closing all the doors and windows and getting into the duvets. So we are always breathing the same polluted and humid air within the room. It is not good for our health and as well as the children.

The humid inner air creates damp and mould problems inside thereby creates the breathing problems. It causes the wheezing/Asthma problems in small children. We can prevent this by letting some fresh air inside our rooms. We can just  tilt the windows slightly to allow some fresh air in.

Thus by following simple and easy steps we can enjoy the winter happily with our children for a long run!!!

  4. Definitely important to stay equally hydrated in the winter. You're right we do tend to forget that to much. It's definitely important to stay fully clothed to stay warm.
